Welcome back to the monthly Quai Network Developer Roundup. These monthly roundups act as a more technically-focused version of “This Week in Quai,” offering insight into development progress on the core protocol and surrounding tooling.
Core Protocol
Development on the core protocol this month has largely focused on testing the existing implementation of Quai and cleaning up the codebase to prepare for the Iron Age Testnet.
- Performance testing has begun on nodes, allowing core developers to optimize for memory and compute usage during devnets. (PR 906: added pprof flag to enable/disable pprof)
- State has been removed from Prime and Region chains, and now only is held in Zones. (PR 871: Remove miner coinbase from Prime and Region and PR 887: Made it so pick ph only happens in zones)
- Caching of external transactions (ETXs) has been optimized, allowing nodes to ask peers for pending ETXs instead of storing them all. (PR 885: Petx caching in Doms and Peer Location bucketing)
- ETH’s hard fork history and other unused/unnecessary parts of the codebase have been cleaned out. (PR 802: Remove references to Homestead and Tangerine and respective EIPs, PR 803: Remove all references to DAO fork, PR 804: Remove all references to Frontier, PR 805: Remove all references to Spurious Dragon hard fork and related EIPs, PR 809: Remove all references to Byzantium, PR 852: Cleanup Constantinople, PR 856: Cleanup Istanbul, PR 857: Cleanup Muir Glacier, PR 862: Cleanup Berlin, PR 868: Cleanup London)
Additionally, a new Quai Dev Discord server has been created for conversations specifically surrounding development and mining. The server can be joined here.
Testnet Tooling
Updates to testnet tooling, including wallets and the block explorer, have been updated to accommodate for the implementation of PoEM.
- Mining software (previously a single “quai-miner” repository) has been organized into quai-cpu-miner and quai-nvidia-miner.
- A quai-stratum repository has been created to facilitate mining pools in the Iron Age Testnet.
- The Quai Dashboard Wallet may not be the only wallet available for users in the Iron Age Testnet… More information coming on this soon!
- The Quais SDK (similar to ethers.js) has been updated to function with the implementation of PoEM.
Quai Genesis Developer Grants Program
- Infrastructure for the Genesis Grants Program is nearly complete.
- A dedicated Genesis page for information and applications will be hosted on the Quai website
- KYC flow for accepted applicants is being set up prior to the program’s launch.
- Telegram and Discord communities have been created to facilitate easy communication between accepted applicants and the Dominant Strategies team.
“There has been a ton of progress on the Quai Genesis Grants Program. The developer grants Genesis provides will be an essential piece of ecosystem and community building as we get closer to testnet. In the coming weeks, our team is looking to knock out the last few pieces of the program so that we can start onboarding builders to the thriving Quai Network ecosystem.”
– Justin, Developer Relations Manager
BTC Miami / EthCC
Members of the Dominant Strategies team traveled to Miami to connect with miners and developers at Bitcoin Miami. While there was no Quai Booth at the conference, Bitcoin Miami still resulted in many important connections and conversations.
Similar to Bitcoin Miami, members of the Dominant Strategies team will be traveling to EthCC in Paris to represent Quai Network with no booth. If you’ll be in Paris for EthCC, drop a message in the Quai Discord to meet up with the Dominant Strategies team IRL!
The next conference that the Quai Booth will be set up at is the September Permissionless 2023 conference hosted in Austin, TX.
Join us to build a better blockchain.
Quai Network is an open-source Proof-of-Entropy-Minima blockchain network utilizing the capabilities of merged mining to increase throughput and security. Users of Quai Network will enjoy fast transaction times without compromising decentralization and security. Miners will have competitive mining opportunities across the many blockchains within the network.
Capable of thousands of transactions per second, the Quai Network is a new solution to scalability that is soon to be ready for mainnet release.
